Microsoft PowerApps help your business users to collaborate and work more efficiently with tailored problem solving capabilities to deliver data presentation. There are many ways you can use PowerApps in order to streamline your operations and benefit from PowerApps, whether it’s from your desktop or through your mobile device.
PowerApps is an enterprise service to connect and share business apps with your team and you can do so with data security and privacy controls in order to maintain policies as you take advantage of PowerApps in many of the following ways:
One of the main uses for Microsoft PowerApps is creating your own apps improve operations – this can be accomplished by either building it from the ground up or from a template. Users can build custom business apps for web and mobile devices that can connect through existing data sources in order to track finances, projects and collaborate with employees.
Utilizing the PowerApps design workspace, you can select layouts, formulas, galleries, tables and controls to configure your app how you want it to appear and function. PowerApps simplifies the process of creating an app and shortens the amount of time to create by not requiring programming skills, while providing a user-friendly interface to customize functionality and appearance.
Connect Your Data
Microsoft PowerApps connects to various data sources to build your app including:
- Excel files
- SharePoint Online lists
- Salesforce objects
- Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online records
- Azure SQL Database tables
- Office 365 Exchange data
- Microsoft Translator
- Custom APIs
Why connect? These connections will enable you and the people within your organization to have access to data while you build apps. Once you have created these connections with the most up to date information, you’re free to create your apps using the data from a number of different data sources. You can create an app instantly using your unique data and share it with your team as long as they also have access to the connected data sources.

One of the most powerful features of Microsoft PowerApps is its ability to create custom APIs with the support of particular authentication mechanisms such as Azure, Active Directory, Google, OneDrive, Salesforce and Basic Authentication. Custom APIs are any RESTful APIs and can be used by anyone using PowerApps. A Swagger file (.json) and an icon for the custom API are needed as well. You can create up to five custom APIs in a PowerApps account. Custom APIs are great to connect to any existing API that is hosted elsewhere from PowerApps. Once you register and create a connection to your API, you can use it to build new apps in PowerApps.
PowerApps and SharePoint
The launch of SharePoint’s modern list experience now enables users to have the option to create a PowerApp for SharePoint lists directly within SharePoint Online and share among employees within the organization. Once you select the PowerApp option for a SharePoint list, the PowerApps web designer will open in your browser and will automatically create an app based on the schema and data in that list. Easy right? Not liking the default look? Feel free to customize it before you share it to fit your needs.
Microsoft PowerApps is a powerful tool for businesses to use internally when they’re not in the office. A custom app can easily be created to connect with field workers and those back in the office for instant data access. We live in a mobile age where data is expected to be accessed from anywhere and Powerapps provides solutions to organizations that need data access from anywhere. PowerApps service runs on Azure and integrates with Azure, Active Directory, Azure App Service and Azure Media Services. PowerApps also integrates with Microsoft Flow. Microsoft Flow is a tool for businesses to use in order to automate messaging and data-sharing between Microsoft and third-party business apps such as OneDrive and Salesforce, MailChimp, Office 365 and Sharepoint. That being said, users will be able to trigger flows from within PowerApps.
